Everything you’ve wanted to know about the SafeHarbor Emergency Binder System

Welcome!

Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions I receive - everything from how the binder works to how you can customize it for your own family.

If you don't see your question here, please contact me here. I'm happy to help!

Why doesn’t the SafeHarbor system include a binder?

The SafeHarbor Emergency Binder System is delivered as a printable PDF so you can choose the binder style that works best for you - for a few very important reasons:

Privacy & Security

We don’t want the outside of your binder to broadcast that it holds sensitive personal information. Choosing a plain or ordinary-looking binder helps keep your documents more secure, especially in the event of a move, home repair, or even a casual visitor.

Personal Preference

Everyone has their own binder preferences: D-rings vs. O-rings, view-style covers vs. solid fronts, and of course, size and color. A young adult might only need a 1" binder, while someone further along in life may need something larger.

Rather than assuming everyone wants the style I use (a two-inch white, durable D-ring binder with a view front), I want you to choose what fits your needs and your home best.

Where to Buy Supplies

You can use a binder you already own, visit your favorite local store, or browse a few suggestions in my Amazon storefront (the links on this page are affiliate links, by the way). I recommend a sturdy, durable or even a heavy-duty binder rather than an economy version - your binder will hold a lifetime of important information, and the cheap ones don’t always hold up.

    A Few Extras I Recommend:

Once you’ve printed your system and chosen your binder, you’ll have a setup that’s completely personalized, private, and built to serve your household.

Can I get a printed version if I don’t have a printer?

Yes! If you’d rather not print the worksheets yourself, there are a few options available:

Local copy shop or printer: Often located near courthouses or downtown areas, these shops can print and hole-punch your SafeHarbor system for you.

Office supply stores: Chains like Staples, OfficeMax, and Office Depot offer in-store or online printing services.

Public libraries or colleges: Many have low-cost printing options available to the public.

FedEx Office or UPS Store: Provide walk-in or online upload services with fast turnaround.

Tip: You don’t have to print the entire SafeHarbor Emergency Binder System all at once; you can start with the sections you’re working on. Many users print just a few pages at a time to help them stay focused and avoid overwhelm.

Prefer a printed-for-you option?

I also offer a printed version of the SafeHarbor Emergency Binder worksheets shipped directly to you, printed on high-quality paper, 3-hole punched, and ready to place in your own binder. The total cost is $77, which includes USPS Priority Mail shipping. (Binder and accessories not included.) You’ll also receive the digital PDF files, so you can print additional copies later if needed.

Please allow a few extra days for processing and delivery, as each set is prepared and shipped by hand with care.

If you’re interested in this option, just contact me (kathi@oakhillhomestead.com) and I’ll be happy to send payment details.
